Build and Trades Academy

Doing What’s Needed

OSHA Safety, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electric, Guard Card or CDL Certification; Friends of Waimanalo has seen many students and adults become better candidates for jobs with Unions and Private companies by going through the the courses our instructors teach. With our relationships with Unions and our own private partnerships in new technologies in home building, we enhance the possibility of gainful employment in these times.

Multi Media Academy

Tackling the Issue

With Hawaii having many successful Film and TV programs reach our shores, Friends of Waimanalo looks at educating the generations of new Multi Media Techs not only in Film and TV Production but in Live-streaming, Live Events and Animation. We focus on Hawaii Made stories being told with our Hawaii Made technicians to distribute our Hawaii Stories to the world. We offer a Passport Training that certifies in 7 basic safety certifications needed for working on an industrial site to include a community Emergency Response Team Certification to give back to your community in times of need.

Hawaiian Culture Academy

Making a Difference

Being a Hawaii Based Non-Profit Organization it is only fitting for our organization to base all of our training from Hawaiian Culture and Practices. Having a Sense of place, pride and respect for our land, water and people will help our work with the community keep us focused and grounded in being Pono in all we do.

Education & Outreach

Doing What’s Needed

Friends of Waimanalo's key approach to our mission is searching out new ways to serve our community and finding key partnerships. Whether it is assisting other non-profits, creating a senior community shuttle bus, building a Community Resource Center or working with Habitat for Humanity to build homes and train our students, FOW is passionate about this service to our community.

Community Development

Habitat for Humanity and ADA Builds

Friends of Waimanalo has partnered with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity to assist in building homes in our community for the less fortunate and ones who most need the assistance. This program works well with our Build and Trades Academy to give our students hands on Carpentry, Electric and Plumbing work and at the same time learning to give back with their skills. FOW also  has made it a mission to install free ADA accessories for the Seniors so they can age in place with ease and comfort.

Support Services

Making a Difference Through Public & Private Partnerships

Friends of Waimanalo knows the importance of Self Sustainability. By partnering with Government agencies and Private For Profit Businesses, FOW can seek Grants, Loans and create a revenue stream that can self fund our programs. 

We are engaged in collective collaboration with organizations related to our programs. DBEDT, The ADC, CTAHR, Kamehameha Schools, Food Farmers and industrial Hemp Farmers.

Community Services

Youth and Kupuna (Senior Citizens)

Our core value and mission is always serving the community, especially the Youth and our Kupuna. Our most vulnerable and our most cherished. FOW develops and manages youth athletics through canoe paddling, sailing education trades academies and Young Life which we provide spiritual relationships and understanding to guide and support our youth and families.

FOW is also assisting our Kupuna with ease of mobility by developing a shuttle bus for the neighborhood to do errands and visit family and friends to improve their quality of life. Additionally, FOW is seeking grant funding to add ADA access ramps and handicap accessories to homes of families in need for their parents or disabled children can gracefully age in place.

Agribusiness

Food - Industrial Hemp - Aquaculture - Energy - Water

Friends of Waimanalo has partnered with Ohana Hui Ventures in utilizing 400 acres of land in the Whitmore Village area to engage in Agriculture, Aquaculture, Water Conservation, Sustainable Energy and Industrial Hemp to grow fiber for Hempwood, Hempcrete, and Bio Diesel.
